In today’s globalized world, the increasing intensity of both local and global news circulation has made it ever more crucial to interpret social, political, and economic dynamics within the framework of ethical principles. The Journalism Department’s curriculum aims to train professional journalists who adhere to professional ethics, are capable of establishing cause-and-effect relationships between events, and respect the public’s right to impartial and accurate information.
The Department of Journalism is a four-year undergraduate program within the Faculty of Communication. The department admits students based on the verbal score category. In recent years, the rapid development of information technologies has brought about significant structural and functional transformations in the media sector. The distinctions among print, visual, and auditory media have gradually disappeared, giving rise to an interconnected media environment. In this era marked by digital transformation, Yeditepe University’s Department of Journalism aims to educate individuals who can adapt to these changes, possess new media literacy skills, are conscious of journalism’s social and political functions, and are capable of producing digital content while effectively utilizing modern technology. The department’s courses are designed to enhance students’ knowledge and skills through both theoretical and practical learning. Students have the opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge gained in class through hands-on experience at Yeditepe University’s radio and television studios, news workshops, and computer laboratories. Courses are conducted in collaboration with leading organizations and professional associations in the media industry, allowing students to begin adapting to the professional world while still continuing their academic education.
