Russian Language and Literature holds a central position both in world literature and criticism traditions as well as in international relations, trade, and cultural communication. Yeditepe University is the first and only foundation university in Türkiye to offer an undergraduate program in Russian Language and Literature. Our Russian Preparatory Program aims to prepare students with a solid academic foundation in contemporary Russian language, historical and modern literary texts, and translation practices; it equips students with the language proficiency and academic literacy skills required for faculty-level education.
The Russian Preparatory Program aims to provide language education in accordance with international standards, emphasizing innovation, effectiveness, and cultural diversity. Our vision is to establish a high-quality program that teaches Russian through an interdisciplinary perspective and positions our university as a regionally and internationally recognized institution in Russian language education.
By integrating technological tools and modern teaching methods, the program offers students an active, interactive, and productive learning environment, aiming to develop them into well-equipped individuals both academically and personally.
Education in the Russian Preparatory Program is delivered in the following two groups:
1. RUS010: Beginner Level (CEFR A2)
By the end of the program, students are expected to communicate at A2 level in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The purpose of this program is to equip students with the fundamental Russian communication skills necessary for success in university studies and daily interactions. Upon completion, students are expected to speak Russian fluently, express themselves effectively, possess a rich vocabulary, and be able to evaluate the texts they read.
During the program, students learn Russian phonetics, vocabulary, and grammar systems while developing listening, reading, speaking, and writing skills. Special emphasis is placed on academic language use, comprehension of field-specific texts, and cultural communication in Russian-speaking environments. Courses cover the alphabet, basic grammatical structures, everyday expressions, tenses, and the case system. Communication skills are developed through listening, reading, writing, and speaking activities, with attention to cultural elements and everyday life topics.
2: RUS020: Intermediate Level (CEFR B1)
By the end of this program, students are expected to achieve B1-level proficiency in accordance with the CEFR. The purpose is to enable students to communicate independently in academic and social settings in Russian. Students are expected to understand texts on various topics and express their ideas clearly both orally and in writing. The program reinforces grammatical knowledge, expands vocabulary, and develops academic language skills. Students are trained to use intermediate grammatical structures correctly, communicate fluently and comprehensibly in daily and academic contexts, and develop balanced reading, listening, writing, and speaking skills. The program also strengthens skills in understanding and summarizing academic texts, broadens vocabulary, and deepens knowledge of Russian culture, traditions, and social life.
