Yeditepe University Department of Political Science and International Relations
In today's world, as fields of work become increasingly specialized, the shortage of personnel with interdisciplinary training who can work in multiple areas simultaneously is growing. Both public institutions and the private sector take care to employ people who have knowledge about many fields and are open to self-development.
As the Department of Political Science and International Relations, our fundamental approach is to reinforce the skills of acquiring information, accessing information, and using information. In this context, we aim to cultivate versatile social scientists who possess a critical thinking structure and can produce analytical solutions to problems.
Our Department, which provides education under the umbrella of Yeditepe University's Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, is an undergraduate program that admits students based on the equal-weight (eşit ağırlık) score type of the higher education institutions exam, with the language of instruction being 100% English.
Interdisciplinary and Analytical Education
The Political Science and International Relations undergraduate program aims to analyze current sociocultural, economic, and political dynamics in Turkey and on a global scale with an interdisciplinary understanding by examining political theories and practices. In the 21st-century world, where the phenomenon of globalization has gained momentum, the presence of Non-Governmental Organizations and multinational corporations on the political stage alongside states is taking international relations to a different dimension. In this regard, it becomes important to train experts who can think critically about new developments, have a command of world and Turkish politics, constantly renew themselves, and possess advanced foreign language skills.
Our department aims to provide society with professionals who have the ability to apply scientific methods, can interpret the intensifying network of relations worldwide from an analytical perspective, and can create new policies.
Program Structure and Opportunities
Our department's interdisciplinary education approach offers students a comprehensive and high-quality program. The first two years of the education program consist of fundamental courses that address the different dimensions of the Political Science and International Relations discipline. Starting from the third year, students choose courses geared towards specialization and aligned with their areas of interest. The program, with its continuously updated curriculum, aims to ensure that our students are aware of global developments and innovations, and can comprehend and act in accordance with change.
Double Major and Minor: Our students can graduate from the university with a double diploma by making choices in a wide range of fields, from Law to Business Administration, and from Sociology to International Trade.
Second Foreign Language: Through elective language courses, students are offered the opportunity to learn one or more foreign languages in addition to English.
Social Responsibility: In the Social Responsibility and Ethics course taken in the 3rd year, social responsibility projects are developed, and social responsibility awareness is acquired both theoretically and practically.
International Experience: With the strength of our university's exchange and Erasmus collaborations in 526 international programs, our students can spend one or two semesters at universities of their choice abroad.
Academic Staff and Specialization Areas
Our department's staff includes a total of 14 full-time academics. Among them are names considered pioneers in their fields, such as Feroz Ahmad and Cemil Oktay, as well as young social scientists who have drawn attention with their national and international publications and the awards they have won. Another advantage of our department is the elective courses it offers thanks to its regional experts. Thanks to our faculty members who have developed their academic expertise in this area, our department offers courses on society and politics in Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, Asia, and the Unitedited States.
Career Opportunities
Our graduates are employed in a wide area ranging from public institutions to non-governmental organizations, and from multinational corporations to audit firms and banks. On the other hand, we also have students who continue their academic careers at prestigious universities in Turkey and abroad. With the regulation published in 2018, it has also become easier for our graduates to become administrative judges.
