Quality Assurance

To ensure the quality of higher education programmes, the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) is responsible for planning, organising, managing and supervising education, teaching and other activities carried out at higher education institutions. The ‘University Monitoring and Evaluation Reports’ for higher education institutions, prepared annually in accordance with the criteria determined by YÖK, are published. Reports containing quantitative and qualitative assessments of higher education institutions, prepared based on these reports, are shared with the public by YÖK. Every year, YÖK publishes the ‘Foundation Higher Education Institutions Report’ containing academic, administrative and financial data on foundation higher education institutions. These reports, which contain quantitative and qualitative evaluations of foundation higher education institutions, are shared with the public by YÖK. Quality assurance for undergraduate programmes in higher education is provided in accordance with the ‘Procedures and Principles for Ensuring Quality Assurance of Higher Education Diploma Programmes’:
1. Development and Approval of Teaching Programmes:
1.1. YÖK determines the minimum standards and criteria required for the establishment of undergraduate departments and programmes at higher education institutions.
1.2. The curriculum of undergraduate programmes at higher education institutions and the learning outcomes that each programme will provide to students are determined by the senates of higher education institutions in accordance with the basic principles established by YÖK on these matters.
1.3. The curriculum of the National Core Education Programmes is implemented by higher education institutions with the approval of YÖK after being accepted by the relevant Council of Deans.
2. Assessment and Evaluation
2. Assessment and Evaluation: How the learning outcomes that each undergraduate programme will provide to students are assessed and evaluated is carried out in accordance with the education, teaching, and examination regulations prepared by higher education institutions in line with the fundamental principles established by YÖK on these matters.
3. Certification: Students enrolled in undergraduate programmes receive a bachelor's degree upon successfully completing the course credits and other requirements
specified by higher education institutions.
4. Self-Assessment-External Assessment: Higher education institutions, within the context of continuous monitoring, enter the ‘Institutional Self-Assessment Reports’ for the previous year into the Information System prepared by the Higher Education Quality Council (YÖKAK) at the beginning of each year. YÖKAK shares the ‘Institutional Feedback Report’ it prepares regarding the external assessment of higher education institutions with the public. Furthermore, accreditation decisions issued by accreditation organisations authorised or recognised by YÖKAK also demonstrate that the quality assurance of the programmes' competencies is ensured.
YÖKAK conducts regular review activities regarding the competencies determined in accordance with its regulations. ACCREDITATION Industrial programmes operating in Turkey
are accredited by ENTAK. The Industrial Design Accreditation Board carries out the necessary work for the evaluation and accreditation of industrial design undergraduate and postgraduate education programmes. In all official documents and correspondence of ETMK, this board is referred to by its short name, ‘ENTAK’.
