Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples

The increase in population, coupled with social, economic and environmental factors, has made the healthcare sector even more important. Consequently, the need for nurses is increasing day by day, as health is sought in every environment where humans exist. Nurses not only implement the treatment planned by the medical doctor but also often act as a bridge between the patient and the doctor. Nursing duties include protecting patients' health, providing information to patients and the community about treatment, and ensuring their care. Nurses meet patients' needs, such as blood pressure, sugar and tension measurements, serum and drug treatment, and also prepare patients before surgery and carry out the necessary checks. Nurses treat all individuals equally, without discrimination based on race, language, religion, age, gender, etc., and also protect the privacy of patients. Maintaining the dignity of the profession is also among the duties of nursing, where honesty and reliability are important.

Nurses have a wide range of work areas; they can work in public and private hospitals, rehabilitation centres, health counselling centres, the Ministry of Health and Provincial Health Directorates, workplace health units, health centres, dispensaries, home care centres, emergency health service stations, different departments of polyclinics and intensive care units, and all other institutions providing health services.

Outpatient clinics and intensive care units comprise multiple departments. Cardiology, general surgery, dentistry, internal medicine, gynaecology, urology, ENT, oncology, and neurology are just a few examples. Nurses can also specialise in these departments based on the branches and areas of interest they focus on during their training.
